மேட்டூர் அணையில் தேவையான அளவுக்கு தண்ணீர் இருப்பதால் கடந்த 2021-ஆம் ஆண்டு முதல் காவிரி பாசன மாவட்டங்களில் குறுவை சாகுபடிக்காக, வழக்கமான நாளான ஜூன் 12-ஆம் நாள் அல்லது அதற்கு முன்பாகவே தண்ணீர் திறந்து விடப்பட்டு வருகிறது. கடந்த பிப்ரவரி மாதம் சம்பா மற்றும் தாளடி சாகுபடி நிறைவடைந்ததைத் தொடர்ந்து மேட்டூர் அணை மூடப்பட்டதிலிருந்தே மேட்டூர் அணையில் 100 அடிக்கும் கூடுதலாக தண்ணீர் இருந்து வருகிறது.
அதனால், நடப்பாண்டிலும் ஜூன் 12-ஆம் நாள் மேட்டூர் அணையிலிருந்து தண்ணீர் திறக்கப்படும் என்பது 3 மாதங்களுக்கு முன்பே உறுதியாகி விட்டது. அத்தகைய சூழலில் மேட்டூர் அணை மூடப்பட்டவுடன், கடந்த பிப்ரவரி மாதமே காவிரி பாசன மாவட்டங்களில் தூர்வாரும் பணிகளை மேற்கொள்ள வேண்டும் என்று உழவர்கள் தரப்பில் கோரிக்கை விடுக்கப்பட்டது. ஆனால், அதை ஏற்காமல் மிகவும் தாமதமாக கடந்த ஏப்ரல் மாதத்தில் தூர்வாரும் பணிகள் தொடங்கப்பட்டது தான் அனைத்து சிக்கல்களுக்கும் காரணம் ஆகும்.

மேட்டூர் அணையிலிருந்து திறக்கப்படும் தண்ணீர் சரியான நேரத்தில் தொலைதூர பாசனப் பகுதிகளுக்கு வந்து விடும் என்ற நம்பிக்கையில் இப்போதே 50 ஆயிரம் ஏக்கருக்கும் கூடுதலான பரப்பில் குறுவை சாகுபடி தொடங்கப்பட்டு விட்டது. ஆனால், சரியான நேரத்தில் தூர்வாரும் பணிகள் நிறைவடையவில்லை என்றால் கூடுதல் பரப்பளவில் குறுவை சாகுபடி செய்யும் திட்டம் கருகி விடும்.
