]]>எல்லா நூலகங்களிலும் நூல்களை அவ்வளவு எளிதாக நாம் தேடி எடுத்துவிட இயலாது. ஒரு நூலைத் தேடி எடுப்பதற்குள் களைப்புதான் மிஞ்சும். நூல்களை அப்படி அடுக்கி வைத்திருப்பார்கள்.
என்ன செய்வதன்றியே தெரியாமல் ஒவ்வொரு ரேக் ஆக போய் தேட வேண்டும் அல்லது தேட வேண்டி இருக்கும். இது போன்று ஆறு மாடிக் கட்டடங்கள் என்றால் என்ன செய்வது? ஒரு புத்தகம் நாம் தேடுவது அவ்வளவு சாத்தியமானதா?

ஒவ்வொரு தளத்திலும் நுழைவாயிலில் உள்ள கணினியில் நூலின் பெயரையோ ஆசிரியர் பெயரையோ தட்டச்சு செய்தால் எந்த அலமாரியில் எந்த இடத்தில் அந்த நூல் உள்ளது என்பதைக் கணினி சொல்லும்.
நாம் எளிதாக பார்த்து எளிதாக எவ்வித அலைச்சலும் இன்றி எடுத்து வரலாம். இது தகவல் தொழில்நுட்ப வளர்ச்சியின் பயனால் விளைந்த நன்மை.
அதற்கு ஒரு வழிமுறையை நம் நாட்டுக்கு வழங்கியவர் ஒரு தமிழர்….!
அந்தப் பெருமைக்குரியவர்தான் இந்திய நூலகத் தந்தை என்று போற்றப்படும் “சீர்காழி ராமாமிர்தம் ரங்கநாதன்” (எஸ்.ஆர்.ரங்கநாதன்)….!
அந்த மாமனிதர் பிறந்தநாள் இன்று!!!
1924ல் சென்னைப் பல்கலைக்கழக நூலகத்தில் முதல் நூலகராக பணியில் சேர்ந்தவர்.
மாநிலக்கல்லூரி முதல்வரின் ஆலோசனைப்படி, லண்டன் சென்று, நூலக அறிவியலில் பல்வேறு நுணுக்கங்களைக் கற்றவர்.
நாட்டில் உள்ள பல்கலைக்கழக நூலகத்தை சீரமைக்கத் தொடங்கியவர்.
சென்னை நூலகச் சங்கத்தை நிறுவியவர். நூலக இயக்கத்தின் சின்னமாக மாற்றி, அதன் அமைப்புச் செயலாளராக 1928 முதல் 1945 வரை செயல்பட்டவர்.
இன்று நுாலகங்களில் பயன்படுத்தப்படும், ‘கோலன் பகுப்பு முறை’ என்னும், பொருள்வாரி பகுப்பு முறையைக் கண்டுபிடித்தவர். இந்த முறை, உலக நுாலக அறிஞர்களால் பாராட்டப்பட்டது.
1939 ஆம் ஆண்டு நுாலக மாதிரிச் சட்டத்தை இயற்றி, பின்னர் இவருடைய முயற்சியால்தான், 1948 ஆம் ஆண்டு, சென்னை பொது நூலகச் சட்டம் நிறைவேற்றப்பட்டது.
1. நுால்கள் பயன்பாட்டுக்கானவை
2. ஒவ்வொரு வாசகருக்கும் அவரது நுால்
3. ஒவ்வொரு நூலுக்கும் அதன் வாசகர்
4. வாசகருடைய நேரத்தைச் சேமிக்கவேண்டும்
5.நூலகம் ஒரு வளரும் உயிரினம்
என்ற மேற்காணும் ஐந்து கோட்பாடுகளை உருவாக்கியவர்.
நூலகவியலுக்குச் செய்த பங்களிப்புக்காக 1957 ஆம் ஆண்டு இந்திய அரசின் பத்மஸ்ரீ விருது பெற்ற பெருமைக்குரியவர்.
நூலகத்துறைக்கு ஆற்றியுள்ள அளப்பரிய செயல்களுக்காக எஸ்.ஆர். ரங்கநாதன் “இந்திய நூலகத் தந்தை” எனப் போற்றப்படுபவர்.
இவர் பிறந்த நாளான ஆகஸ்ட் 12ம் நாளை நூலகர் தினமாக மத்திய அரசு அறிவித்துள்ளது.
