வள்ளலார், மிக எளிமையான ஆடைகளையே அணிவார். காவி உடையை வெறுத்த அவர், வெள்ளை ஆடையை உடுத்துவார். இடுப்பில் உடுத்தும் ஆடையை முழங்கால் மறையும் அளவுக்கே உடுத்துவார். மேலாடையை உடல் முழுவதும் போர்த்தி இருப்பார். தலையைச் சுற்றி முக்காடாக அணிந்திருப்பார். சில சமயங்களில், ஓர் ஆடையையே கீழும் மேலுமாக உடுத்தி யிருப்பார் என்று அவருடைய சீடர்கள் கூறுகின்றனர். ஒரு மணிநேரத்திற்கு, ஒரு ஆடையை மாற்றுகிற, லட்சக்கணக்கில் ஆடை அலங்காரத்திற்கு செலவு செய்கிறவர்களுக்கு வள்ளலாரின் எளிமை பிடிக்குமா என்று தெரியவில்லை.

மனுமுறை கண்ட வாசகம் எனும் நூலில், அவர் பாடியுள்ள சில வரிகள் ஏனோ பிரதமரின் பேச்சை படித்த போது நினைவுக்கு வந்தன. ‘நல்லோர் மனத்தை நடுங்கச் செய்தேனோ! களவு செய்வோருக்கு உளவு சொன்னேனோ! குடிவரி உயர்த்தி கொள்ளை கொண்டேனோ! ஏழைகள் வயிறு எரியச் செய்தேனோ! உயிர்க் கொலை செய்வோருக்கு உபகாரஞ் செய்தேனோ! பொது மண்டபத்தை போய் இடித்தேனோ! ஆசை காட்டி மோசம் செய்தேனோ! பசித்தோர்
முகத்தை பாராதிருந்தேனோ! பகை கொண்டு அயலார் பயிரை அழித்தேனோ!’ என்றெல்லாம் வள்ளலார் யாரை நினைத்து பாடி வைத்தாரோ.
இந்த விழாவில் பேசிய ஆளுநர் ஆர்.என்.ரவி, வழக்கம்போல சனாதனத்தை அள்ளி வள்ளலார் மீது பூசியிருக்கிறார். ‘மதித்த சமயமத வழக்கெல்லாம் மாய்ந்தது; வருணாசிரமம் எனும் மயக்கமும் சாய்ந்தது’ என்றும், ‘சாதிசமயங்களில் வீதி பல வகுத்த சாத்திரக் குப்பைகள் எல்லாம் பாத்திரம் அன்று’ என்றும், ‘சாதியும் மதமும் சமயமும் தவிர்த்தேன்’ என்றும், ‘பிறசமயத்தார் பெயரும் அவர் பெயரே கண்டாய்’ என்றும் பாடியவர் வள்ளலார்.
இத்துடன் நிறுத்திக் கொள்ளட்டும்
ஆளுநர் மாளிகையில் வள்ளல் பெருமானுக்கு சிலை வைத்தால் மட்டும் போதாது. அவர் பாடல்களின் உட்பொருளை புரிந்து கொள்வதும் அவசியம். ஆளுநர் அந்த விழாவில் என்னை அவமானப்படுத்தினாலும், நான் அவர்களை ஒதுக்க முடியாது. அதுதான் சனாதனம் என்று கூறியுள்ளார். உண்மையில், இதை இவர் நம்புவாரே யானால், வள்ளலாரை அவமானப்படுத்துவதை இத்துடன் நிறுத்திக் கொள்ளட்டும்.
‘வேத ஆகமங்கள் என்று வீண் வாதம் ஆடுகின்றீர்; வேத ஆகமத்தின் விளைவறிவீர் – சூதாகச் சொன்னவலால் உண்மை வெளித் தோன்ற உரைக்கவில்லை, என்ன பயனோ இவை’ என்பது வள்ளலார் வாக்கு. ஆனாலும் இன்றைக்கும் சிலர் வீண்வாதம் ஆடுகின்றார். அதற்காக வள்ளலாரையே வளைக்கப் பார்க்கிறார்கள்.
வள்ளலார் தனது இறுதிப் பேருரையில் ‘இது தொடங்கி எக்காலத்தும் சுத்த சன்மார்க்கத்தின் முக்கிய தடையாகி சமயங்கள், மதங்கள், மார்க்கங்கள் என்பவற்றின் ஆசார, சங்கல்ப, விகற்பங்களும், வருணம், ஆசிரம் முதலிய உலகாச்சார சங்கற்ப விகற்பங்களும் எங்கள் மனதில் பற்றாத வண்ணம் அருள் செய்தல் வேண்டும்’ என்று வேண்டியுள்ளார்.
ஆளுநர் அருள்கூர்ந்து வள்ளலாரை விட்டுவிடுமாறு வேண்டுகிறோம்.
