தற்போது காவிரி நீர்ப்பிடிப்பு பகுதிகளில் மழை குறைந்ததால், ஒகேனக்கல் மற்றும் மேட்டூர் அணைக்கான நீர்வரத்து வெகுவாக குறைந்துள்ளது. குறிப்பாக மேட்டூர் அணைக்கான நீர்வரத்து நேற்று காலை விநாடிக்கு 121 கனஅடியாக இருந்தது ஒரே நாளில் 117 அடியாக சரிந்தது. இதனால் அணையின் நீர் இருப்பும் குறைகிறது. இந்த நிலையில் கர்நாடகத்தில் இருந்து கூடுதலான நீரை பெற வேண்டிய நிலை எழுந்துள்ளது. இப்படியான உடனடி பிரச்சனைகள் உள்ள சூழலில், ஏற்கனவே நீதிமன்றத்தால் தீர்க்கப்பட்ட பிரச்சனைகளை புதிதாக குழப்பும் முயற்சியை கர்நாடக அரசாங்கம் தொடர்கிறது.
