சோழபுரம் பகுதியில் கள ஆய்வு மேற்கொண்டதில் சோழபுரத்திலிருந்து நாலு கோட்டைக்கு செல்லும் வழியில் உள்ள எல்லைப்பிடாரி அம்மன் கோவிலில் இச்சிற்பம் கண்டெடுக்கப்பட்டது. தலைவன் அல்லது மன்னன் போரில் வெற்றி பெற வேண் டியோ, நோயிலிருந்து மீளவோ காளி தேவியிடம் வேண்டிக்கொண்டு போரில் வெற்றி பெற்ற பிறகு அல்லது உடல் நலம் பெற்ற பிறகு தன் தலையைத் தானே அரிந்து உயிர் விடுதலே அரி கண்டமாகும். நவகண்டம் என்பது ஒன்பது இடங்களில் வெட்டி, உடம்பை ஒன்பது கண்டங்களாக்கி உயிரைத் துறப்பது. அரி கண்டம், நவகண்டம் பற்றிய குறிப்புகள் சிலப்பதிகாரம் மற்றும் கலிங்கத்துப் பரணியில் இடம் பெற்றுள்ளன.
அரி கண்டமாக தன் தலையை வெட்டி உயிர் கொடுத்தவருக்கு உதிரக் காணி வழங்கப்படுவதும் உண்டு. சோழர் கால கல்வெட்டு காளையார்கோவில் ஒன்றியம் மல்லலில் இவ்வாறான சோழர் காலக் கல்வெட்டு ஒன்று தொல்லியல் துறையால் பதிவு செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளது. 2 அடி உயரமும் 1½ அடி அகலமும் உடைய சிலை யானது ஒரு காலை முன் வைத்து மற்றொரு காலை பின் வைத்து மடக்கி அமர்ந்த நிலையில் இடது கையில் தன் தலைக் குடுமியைப் பிடித்துக் கொண்டும் வலது கையில் வாளால் தன் தலையை அரிவதுமாகக் காட்சிப் படுத்தப்பட்டுள்ளது.
மேலும் காதில் காதணிகளும், முன்கையில் வளையல்களும் பின் கையில் தோடாவும், கழுத்தில் பதக்கம் போன்ற ஆபரண மும், இடையில் ஆடையும் அணிந்து வளமுடையவராகக் காட்டப்பட்டுள்ள தால் இவர் படைத்தலைவனாக இருந்திருக்கலாம். இது 11-ஆம் நூற்றாண்டைச் சேர்ந்த சிற்பமாகக் கருதலாம். இச்சிலைக்கு அருகிலேயே நடுகல் சிற்பம் ஒன்றும் காணப்படுகிறது. மூன்று வீரர்கள் வரிசையாக நிற்கின்றனர். இதில் அனைவரும் வலது கையில் குத்துவாளைக் கீழ் ஊன்றியவாறும் ஒருவர் மட்டும் இடது கையில் வில்லை பிடித்தவாறும் காட்டப்பட்டுள்ளது. இதன் காலம் 16-ம் நூற்றாண்டாக இருக்கலாம்.
கோவிலின் பின்பகுதியில் கருவறையில் பழமையான சிலைகளை வைத்துள்ளனர். அதில் ஒரு சிலை ஆயிரம் ஆண்டு பழமையானதாக இருக்கலாம். இச்சிலை அமர்ந்த நிலையில் எட்டுக்கரங்களுடன் காளியாகக் காட்சி தருகிறது. இச்சிலை முன்பாகவே தலைப்பலி நிகழ்ந்திருக்கலாம். கோவில் வளாகத்தில் யானை சிற்பம் ஒன்றும் காணப்படுகிறது. இது மிகவும் சிதைந்து பழமை வாய்ந்ததாக உள்ளது. மேலும் திரிசூலமிட்ட எல்லைக்கல் ஒன்றும் நடப்பட்டுள்ளது. கோவிலின் வெளியே சமீபத்திய விளைக்குத்தூண் கல்வெட்டு ஒன்றும் காணப்படுகிறது. இக்கோவிலில் அரிகண்டம் மற்றும் நடு கல் வீரர்கள் சிற்பங்கள் சேர்த்து சப்த கன்னிமாராக வணங்கப்படுவது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.
